This wonderful 100+ year old figural ceramic tobacco jar is most likely French or German and measures 8 tall x 64 ½ overall. The jar takes the form of a pipe-smoking well-fed pug resplendent in formal frock coat that grabs a bit in his middle. It has very nice colors and details and shows some minor damage from use: glued-on chip to outside rim and nicks and glaze chips to inside rim and chipped ear with touch-up. There are no cracks and it has typical impressed numerals on the bottom. The lid has an area for a damp sponge.
