A rare, figural painted bisque humidor or dresser jar depicting the Prussian King – Frederick the Great (or Friedrich der Grosse). A full bust with shoulders comprises the base of the jar. A tricorn hat forms the lid. Ruling from throughout the middle part of the 18th century, Frederick was the last King of Prussia and the longest reigning Hohenzollern kings. He was an enlightened Monarch, thought to have been homosexual, and eventually succeeded by his nephew, Frederick William II. Simply a wonderful figural humidor or jar! It is in overall good, as-pictured used estate condition with some firing flaws to the body, some light edge wear, some light scratches and losses to the painted decoration, some very fine and light glaze scratches here and there, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Highly unusual figural character tobacco humidor in the form of a Cowboy or Westerner figure. Probably Austrian made due to its finer details – this item is made just like the early bisque fairly lamps that were cats and dogs with marble eyes (this item does not have marble eyes). Item is all original but has a few factory things to note – inside of mouth has a pulled crack from factory, it was made that way (see close up of mouth) – and his left eye-lid has a factory pull mark to it as well. Both marks are factory and not damage per-say. As seen, the humidor sponge would fit into his oversized hat – item has superb detail and great colors – no chips or other noted issues.
