This rare glass humidor features a stunning Art Nouveau sterling silver lid. I tested, and the lid is non-magnetic. Also there is no odor like metallic plated silver. Ee the photos of the before and after when I polished the silver lid. The lid weighs 3.6 ounces, or 94 grams of silver. It is inscribed on the inside lid Wallace Brothers Silver Co. There was a post it note inside that read Property of Great Grandpa Charles William Morgan. It came through my mother Lillian Morgan Lentner to me, Jeanette Lentner Johnson. This is an antique albany glazed stoneware snuff jar for Weisert Brothers Tobacco Company of St. The jar stands 8 1/4″ tall by 6″ wide and has no cracks, flakes, or repairs. The top edge does have an outer chip, as shown in the pictures. I do not have the original lid. The piece has an impressed stamp inside a circle that reads, Weisert Bros. A great piece to display in a collection.

It has applied smoking implements including a pipe, cigar, cigarettes, and matches. The background color is smoke gray. The lid and top of the jar are decorated with a moriage swag and pendant decoration. It is signed on the bottom with a green’M’ Morimura Brothers Nippon mark that according to the internet dates to about 1910 – 1911. There is also a hand-painted Asian character mark or signature on the rim of the jar. The jar needs restoration as there is a long crack that runs down from the top edge down through and past the cigar. The jar sounds cracked when tapped, it is not a tight hairline. Nice large size measuring approx 5” x 5” Embossed writing on the front reads HETTERMANN BROS CO. LOUISVILLE KY FACTORY NO 23 5TH DISTRICT OF KY 50 ” and the reverse side reads ” FREEMONT The Hettermann Bros. Cigar manufacturers were started by John and William Hettermann, brothers who came to Louisville, Kentucky from Germany and founded the cigar manufacturing business in 1870. They operated at different locations until 1895 when they moved to South Floyd Street. The company became the Ryan-Hampton Tobacco Co. Please zoom up and notice condition.
