This is a wonderful and rare 19th Century Figural Majolica Tobacco Jar – It is an elephant in a pink jacket with a brown pipe in its mouth. It is said these jars were made in Austria and Germany and were often given out as prizes at fairs and festivals. He stands approx 7 inches tall. He has two slight chips, not unusual given his age, but they don’t take away at all from his appearance. Pls look at pics closely. UP FOR SALE IS A BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE GLASS TOBACCO JAR HUMIDOR WITH METAL LID. THERE IS A PIPE SHAPE ATTACHED TO THE LID FOR HOLDING MATCHES. I THINK THIS LID MAY BE SILVER PLATE??? IT IS MARKED ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE LID WITH 808. THE GLASS JAR STARTS OUT WITH A PALE YELLOW COLOR AT THE TOP AND THEN GOES TO A BEAUTIFUL GREEN ALL THE REST OF THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BOWL. DECORATED WITH PIPES, CIGARS, AND MATCHES. I CANNOT FIND ANY OTHER MARKINGS ON THE GLASS OR THE METAL LID. MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 6 TALL TO THE TOP OF THE PIPE ON THE LID. THE LARGEST DIAMETER ACROSS THE JAR IS APPROXIMATELY 6. LEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS. An interesting Edwardian Cigar box/dispenser made in Oak with Brass Hinges, Decorations, Handle and Cutter. Made in the shape of a coal box with the shovel on the back forming the cutter. Inside the lid is a striker plate to strike the matces on and on the top a small removable tray either for ash or more likely for the matches. Cigars of up to length 12cm can be fitted inside. The amount you can fit in would depend on the size, 100 Hamlets or 25 Henri Winterman 1/2 Coronas aproximately. (Cigars pictured are not included). The overall size is 17cm tall (with the handle).
