Offered is an antique Austrian (Germany) terra cotta figural tobacco jar. The jar depicts perhaps a Japanese Samurai, or a devil or demon, with a large cicada insect on his head, which acts as the handle or finial to lift the lid of the tobacco jar… This item dates to the 1890’s and if not Austrian, then certainly Continental European. It is unmarked, but signed illegibly inside the lid where the humidification sponge would be placed, as shown. This piece does have some chips and repairs consistent with age and normal use, as shown in the photographs. The jar / humidor with lid is 7 1/2″ tall and 5″ across the base. Up for sale is a very rare antique handmade Japanese figural terra-cotta pipe/cigar holder jar. It’s made of a rich color hand painted terra-cotta that has acquired a lovely patina from age. It depicts a detailed elder Japanese man that has an opening on-top of the head to hold cigars and pipes. The piece is in nice antique condition with some paint loss as seen. Measures 6 1/2 inches tall by 6 inches back to front by 5 1/4 inches wide. Which will be a charge of 7% due to New Jersey state law. Please make sure to look at all pictures very closely before purchasing, as most pieces in my shop are non refundable. Most items are antique or vintage and could have usual ware from age. Here we have an original late 1800’s – early 1900’s Japanese Meiji period carved wood skull humidor tobacco jar. These are fairly uncommon and this is a nice example. The wood looks to be of high quality, and it has a nicely aged patina. Size: All items shown against ruler or in hand or both to help you judge size. Measures approximately 5 ½ inches high with lid in place and 3 ½ inches wide and 4 ½ inches deep. Condition: Nice vintage condition as pictured. Signs of wear and use, but nothing I would consider damage. Please see all the pictures as they are part of the description.
