This is a solid Walnut Humidor made by the Decatur Industries Company of Decatur, Illinois. It is lined with solid cedar on the top and bottom. Inside it still has the original humidifier, and also, the original Decatur Industries hygrometer, and thermostat. You might note in the photos that they had them imported from France. The Humidor is large, bigger than any Decatur Industries humidors that we have encountered. It measures nearly 14.5 inches long, 9.25 inches wide, and. 6.25 inches tall. It weighs over 7 pounds. Decatur Industries of Decatur, Indiana, made a variety of solid wood tobacco accessories during the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s, and possibly later. The Company history is a bit sketchy but they made a quality product for the time, always using solid wood, usually walnut. This Humidor is a bit unusual for its size, its design, and for being in such good condition. It is not perfect, having a few tiny blemishes, some marring, small dents, water marks on the top, all shown in the photos, but for its age, over 50 years old, it is doing pretty well. Note: Most, if not all of the imperfections could easily be sanded, or buffed with steel wool and removed, but we left it as we found it. We thought a collector of vintage humidors might find it of interest.
