Antique Tobacco Stoneware Snuff Jar Weisert Bros. St. Louis, MO

This is an antique albany glazed stoneware snuff jar for Weisert Brothers Tobacco Company of St. The jar stands 8 1/4″ tall by 6″ wide and has no cracks, flakes, or repairs. The top edge does have an outer chip, as shown in the pictures. I do not have the original lid. The piece has an impressed stamp inside a circle that reads, Weisert Bros. A great piece to display in a collection.

Antique Bisque Tobacco Humidor depicting Frederick the Great Bust King PT

A rare, figural painted bisque humidor or dresser jar depicting the Prussian King – Frederick the Great (or Friedrich der Grosse). A full bust with shoulders comprises the base of the jar. A tricorn hat forms the lid. Ruling from throughout the middle part of the 18th century, Frederick was the last King of Prussia and the longest reigning Hohenzollern kings. He was an enlightened Monarch, thought to have been homosexual, and eventually succeeded by his nephew, Frederick William II. Simply a wonderful figural humidor or jar! It is in overall good, as-pictured used estate condition with some firing flaws to the body, some light edge wear, some light scratches and losses to the painted decoration, some very fine and light glaze scratches here and there, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. This tobacco jar dates to about 1880 and commemorates the round house at Clifton being built in 1878. The jar is designed as a round tower which was known as a folly. The main body has 2 windows and a door and the lid round roof has a widows peak and 4 chimneys. Beautifully glazed over muted colors this finely made tobacco jar is simply marked with a label underneath which may be a shake number or inventory number from someones collection. Label underneath: #5521 This would be a great addition to any English pottery, humidor or figurative collection for a desk or a kitchen for herbs.
