Offered for sale is this rare antique Abraham Lincoln tobacco jar. It depicts a young Lincoln and is Austrian terracotta pottery made by Johann Maresch, dating from around 1870. I have seen only one other example of this jar, and the colors on this jar are much better. Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. The tobacco jar is just over 8.5 inches tall, and just over 6.5 inches wide. It is in excellent condition for a pottery tobacco jar of this age. There are a few tiny nibbles to the edges of his shoes, small flakes to the edge of his coat and umbrella handle and the underside of a pant leg. There is a short hairline on the part of the lid that sits down in the base (the tip of the pen is pointing to this) and the hairline does not extend into the decorated part, it is all hidden with the lid in place.
