SUPERB large ANTIQUE Mahogany CIGAR humidor/box. Hi and welcome to my listing for this wonderful antique Edwardian cigar box. Pieces like this’ in this condition are becoming increasingly hard to find and it is a lovely example. The box is made from Mahogany. It has the word Cigar in white metal attached to the top of the lid and four plaques around the edge of the lid (note – the plaques have no inscriptions so the new owner could get these engraved if they so wished). There is also a lock (sadly no key). The box measures (externally) 11 inches (280 mm) long X 7 inches (180 mm) wide and stands 4.25 inches (110 mm) high. Internally the box has a sectional, non-removable lining with three possible positions for the dividing piece. The total internal length is 9 inches (228 mm), width 5 inches (125 mm) with the depth being about 2.5 inches (60 mm). The dividing strip may be placed in the middle or 3.25 inches (80 mm) in from either end which would give just over 5.5 inches (142 mm) for the larger section. I’d say the box is in very good/excellent condition for it’s age – the bottom of the box is not finished off as well as the main body or internal section so perhaps there was a felt base on the piece originally (there is a small remnant of some covering). Overall a superb original example would look great on a desk or study. Very stylish and usable and could even be used as a presentation piece with the plaques around the lid.
