This is for a rare tobacco jar with a Spaniel Dog smoking a pipe. The jar was most likely made in Austria during the last part of the 19th century. An example of this rare jar can be found in Dimitrios Bastas’ web site GLAZED & CONFUSED – July 26, 2010 post on Animal Humidors. (This site is The Most Informative site on majolica on the web). This hunidor is perfect for collectors of tobacco memorabilia and figural humidor enthusiasts who appreciate the beauty and rarity of these antique pieces. 6.25 inches tall by roughly 4.5 inches in diameter. Faint impressed numbers on its bottom “66 77/ 72″ – maker unknown. See Horowitz FIGURAL HUMIDORS MOSTLY VICTORIAN, PAGE 136 – Figure 603.
