SUPER, LARGE 105mm WWII ARMY Military Trench Art Cigar Humidor, w/Nice IDENTIFICATION PLATE. DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all…. Very nicely made large WWII Trench Art cigar humidor. Made of (2) 105mm artillery bases. One serves as the bottom cylinder and the other is machined down to the base only to serve as the top. Diameter is machined slightly so that it fits nicely and tightly into the base. There is a nice large. 50 cal airplane machine gun shell round on the top, for decoration and to serve as a handle. On the bottom of the shell is the manufacturing information and the date 1944. On the top of the cover shell is some manufacturing information as well. THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS IS THAT THERE IS A SILVER PLATE RIVETTED TO THE SIDE WITH THE NAME “RICHARD LEARMONTH, ITALY”. My guess is that he was certainly an officer to have something made so nicely for him, AND VERY LIKELY A FLYER CONSIDERING THE MACHINE GUN ROUND DECORATION ON IT. Very nicely made, in excellent condition, with a light aged patina. It appears that it was polished at the time and has been well cared for and taken care of over the years and still has a nice bright aged finish as shown. A particularly unique, usable trench art item!! Stands about 10 3/4″ high to the tip of the bullet, 5″ high to the top of the cylinder/bottom part, and the latter is of course 105mm diameter. Something VERY DIFFERENT for your Trench Art or AIR CORPS collections…… NAMED TRENCH ART TO THE OWNER AND BATTLE AREA IS VERY HARD TO COME BY THESE DAYS!!! Nicely made and nice for display. Can also obviously be used. If you want the best, this is it. A lot of brass and extremely heavy!
