Art Deco Paul Milet Sevres French Ceramic 4pc Set Tobacco Cigar Jar Tray

French Art Deco ceramic 1930s era 4-piece smoker set by Paul Milet of Sevres. Comprising of a lidded tobacco or cigar humidor, ashtray, match or cigarette holder, all on a square tray. Featuring white crispé technique layered over a matte charcoal black ground, giving the pieces a volcanic glazed texture. Accented with sang de boeuf ox blood red interiors for a stunning contrast. Marked for Paul Milet and Sevres, this mark was in use circa 1911. Optat Milet began his career as a modeler for Se`vres in 1862, and opened his own ceramics factory in 1866. His son Paul Jean Milet took over operations shortly before the turn of the century and ran the company until 1931. In overall good condition with no chips or cracks. Some scratches to the red glaze on the tray commensurate with use. Tray measures 11 1/2″ square x 1 1/8″ height. The humidor jar stands 6 3/8″ height x 4 7/8″ width, with a 4 diameter opening. The ashtray or dish is 4 1/4 diameter. The cigarette holder stands 2 7/8″ height x 2 5/8″ width. Paul Milet, son of Optat Milet, came from a well-defined lineage of potters. Because his aesthetic preferences kept pace with the fashions of the era, his early works favored the floral and whiplash ornamentation associated with the Art Nouveau movement. By comparison, his later work is streamlined (streamline moderne/ Art Moderne) with flambe glazed in high-contrast bold jazz-age colors indicative of the Art Deco era. Antique IDEAL Smoking Smoke Stand Wood Humidor smoking stand. The bottom of the cabinet part has a label that reads: Ideal Smoking Stand, Patented September 7, 1926, Manufactured by the Metal Stampings Corp, Streator, IL, USA. It has some wear consistent with age but overall it is in very good condition. Measures approximately 31 tall x 9 wide. Also included are 4 smoking pipes pictured, a glass ashtray and an old Lucky Strike Tobacco tin. All have wear from age and use. Most of our items are obtained through contracted cleanouts, local public auctions or estate liquidations. Our goal is to offer our items as fairly and aggressively priced as possible. You are looking at an Art deco high fashion(modernists- as it was known at the time) set–tobacco or cigar humidor and the companion match holder… Copper and solid brass accenting Deco accents. The tobacco/cigar humidor is 6inches by 4(cylinder shape) with chalk br eather inside. So if you are using this for cigars–I don’t think it would work for thelong panatellas or the fat Cuban/Dominicans–as they are longer but for others it would be great. Also if you were using for tobacco or hemp-based tobacco it would b grand.. Keep it fresh in a high quality way. The piece is signed WB in the Deco fashion–please look at same in the photos. This sale is for a Very Unusual Art Deco Smoking Stand / Humidor with a Copper Lined Compartment for your Cigars and Tabacco’s. This is from the early 1920s and that makes it almost a true Antique (100 YEARS OLD). It is made of Walnut Wood with carved legs, skirt and two side crest. The interior is lined with copper sheating. There is aInlaid pattern on the door. The finish is a dark walnut. There is a full length scratch across the top. There is a missing large wood chip below the left side crest. The size is 18 1/4 x 12/1/4 x 24 1/4. The hardware is original. This will make any Man Cave look better. Please look close at the pictures as they are part of the description.
