For sale is a unique and heavy approx. 2 lbs antique brass box, likely a “marriage” piece or “Trench Art” style creation from the early 20th century. It combines a traditional Persian (Qajar style) hand-hammered brass container with a distinct Western Airedale Terrier finial. Why this piece is special. The Box: A 4-inch square brass caddy featuring intricate floral “repoussé” relief work typical of Middle Eastern craftsmanship. It features a primitive wooden base and retains its original zinc/tin interior lining, historically used to keep tobacco moist or tea leaves fresh. The Finial: The heavy lid is topped with a detailed cast brass Airedale Terrier standing on a pedestal marked AIREDALE TERRIER. This figure resembles vintage 1920s car mascots or dog show trophy toppers. The History: This was likely customized by a British soldier or expatriate who mounted their favorite breed’s mascot onto a local brass souvenir box-creating a one-of-a-kind “East meets West” display piece. Good antique condition with honest age wear. The brass has a warm, unpolished patina. The interior zinc lining shows expected oxidation (white powdery residue) commensurate with age and use as a humidor. The lid fits snugly.
