VERY RARE MID to LATE 18TH CENTURY B R I T I S H ANTIQUE COPPER TOBACCO HUMIDOR, featuring HAND SCRIBED B R I T I S H ORNATE ROYAL CROWN & the HIGH CASE MONOGRAM L. With BOTH APPEARING on ALL THREE COMPONENT PARTS of the HUMIDOR, in NATURALLY AGED COPPER METAL PATINA, with BRASS TOP LID FINGER PULL RING. [Found in southern New Hampshire & from an early, well-appointed post & beam, Georgian style period home in the greater Nashua, NH area]. Mid to late 18th century E n g l i s h antique, hand scribed & hand decorated copper tobacco/powder metal cannisters. 4 1/4″ Height x 4 3/4″ Width. Offered for your review and consideration is this incredibly well preserved, exceptional mid to late 18th century B r i t i s h copper lidded cannister, with both bottom and top fitted copper lids, a wonderfully tooled, attached brass lid finger pull and hand engraved/incised B r i t i s h Imperial/royal crown with the monogram’L. Both appearing on the front sidewall of the cannister, as well as on the lid and on the bottom, identifying it as an article subject to the King of E n g l a n d, King George III, as well as its owner, who used the monogram abbreviating his name’L. The brass and copper both still enjoy their naturally aged copper and brass metal patina and have wonderfully subdued, aged metal colors. There’s only the slightest indication of verdigris patination and powdering found around the base cleat of the attached brass wire lid finger pull. The cannister would have been most likely a tobacco humidor for use in the field or equally could have been employed as a black powder can, also when in the field or used during military campaigns, when more black powder would have been required than what a smaller powder horn could hold. Outstanding hand engraved B r i t i s h royal markings and hand drawn monogram, high case letters’L. Found in southern New Hampshire in a stately, well-appointed Georgian estate , loaded with period 18th and 19th century furniture, decorative accessories and important historical items from the same period. This copper and brass cannister was said to have been passed down generationally to its last former owners and was said to have been, along with many other antiques, fine art and furniture, in that same Georgian post and beam New England estate, for as long as anyone could remember. A fantastic early colonial Ame ri can / B r i t i s h imperial object and an artifact which clearly reminds the viewer of the former administration of the Ame ri can colonies by the B r i t i s h Crown. Estate fresh and in nearly miraculous, museum-quality condition. Now if only it could talk and unwrap the narrative it withholds. Truly an outstanding object and important Ame ri can colonial historical artifact. It won’t be so easy. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Tobacciana\Cigars\Humidors\Antique & Vintage”. The seller is “modsanctuary” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.
