This tobacco humidor has been made from terracotta and has been hand painted with charming details and realistic expression. The character for this Tobacco Jar is a young man wearing a Tweed Berry and a large bow-tied neck tie. Stands about 6.25” tall and about 4.5” in width. The bottom has been marked with BB – 78- 399. Condition is very good for an antique. Does have signs of age and ware. NO chips, cracks, or repairs. Item in photos is what you will actually receive. Stately Mother Pig. Majolica Humidors, VICTORIAN, France, Austria, Ger. &Czech

Where humidors were made in an endless variety of shapes and forms, the animals are the ones that have retained their popularity. Original condition the sponge in the lid for the humidor is newer not original it can be removed or kept in place. Wear is consistent with age in history of the peace. Material, Majolica Animal Humidors. Mother pig carrying her three little ones piggy-back style! Probably made in either Germany or the UK, this is a finely crafted, RARE ceramic piece in unusually excellent condition for its age. Can find no cracks, chips or crazing. Collectors will not want to let this one go! Monday, July 26, 2010. One of the hottest areas of collecting in majolica is in majolica animal humidors. These charming pieces were made by several different companies on the European continent, largely in Germany, Austria, France and Czechoslovakia. They were meant to be both useful and decorative with all of them allowing for the placement of a sponge in the lid to keep the tobacco moist. For consideration is an antique, circa 1900, Bernhard Bloch, Austria figural tobacco jar humidor of a HMS sailor/seaman. It is hand decorated and made of pottery. 6″ in height 4′” across its base and weighs 1 lb 5 oz. Its bottom is marked as in the attached photo. The tobacco jar is in very good original “antique condition” with signs of age, wear and use. It has paint wear and some minor chipping. It is free of cracks and repairs/restoration. For your consideration is a killer (no pun intended) piece! This is a gorgeous, pre-war tobacco canister / smoking companion / humidor by the renowned Bernard Bloch. I’ll call this canister the Sou’wester, or maybe skull whaler? Imagine this on your shelf next to your pipes, blankly staring at you! Numbered 8000, Signed and in wonderful condition, a rare find. Bernard Bloch gained fame mainly by the production of figural tobacco containers and other tobacco products, characteristic of detailed and extremely refined processing. From the German city of Thuringen. After the war, in 1947, the facility was nationalized and affiliated to other porcelain factories – as, for example, Royal Dux and Thun – to form the company called Duchcovský porcelán (Duchcov Porcelain). The producers continued using the same logo as before the nationalization. In 1958, Duchcovský porcelán was transferred under Karlovarský porcelán (Carlsbad Porcelain). Victoria Austria Porcelain Tobacco Jar / Humidor, signed Haufmann, c. 1900

Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely Austrian porcelain tobacco jar or humidor with silver plated lid. The silver plated collar has nicely aged patina and is firmly attached to the body. The lid is heavy silver plated metal with a large pipe attached to the top. The body of the tobacco jar is made of white porcelain and is decorated with an hand-painted medallion signed Haufmann featuring a seated gentleman wearing a red cape with three pretty maidens attending to him. The exterior body of the jar is painted with a mottled background in shades of green and golden brown. Measures 5 1/2″ high (to top of collar) and 7 3/4″ high (to the top of the pipe) with the body having an overall width of 5 1/2. Weighs 2.4 pounds. The body of the cracker jar is in excellent Estate condition with the only noted flaw being a small scratch on the face of one maiden and a tiny white pin-prick in the painted background about 2 left of the other scratch mentioned. The silver plate lid is in very good condition with the only noted flaw being some tarnish in the silver finish on each end of the attached pipe. Antique VCTORIA CARLSBAD AUSTRIA Porcelain Humidor Tobacco Jar with a Figural Pipe Lid. Dates back to a period between 1891 and 1918. In addition to the blue mark, there are letters “V” on the bottom, inside the jar and inside the lid. The jar is in amazing condition for it’s age. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. The lid and the rim had some sort of plating which has mostly worn off. Measures approximately 7.5″H including the pipe; the opening is about 3.5″ in diameter; the base is 3.75 in diameter. This is a nice vintage/antique hard to find anthropomorphic monkey grinder tobacco pottery humidor/jar. This does have areas of damage, pictured. A few chips on the pipe, one under the lid, and a stress crack down the center. This is very old from the late 1800’s according to my research. Rare MALLARD DUCK IN CLOAK Tobacco Jar Antique Pottery Humidor Austria, c1920

MALLARD DUCK IN CLOAK Tobacco Jar Antique Pottery Humidor c1920. This is a rare antique Austrian Majolica Tobacco Jar known as the MALLARD DUCK IN CLOAK Tobacco Jar. This two-piece tobacco jar, or humidor, is modeled in deep relief. And glaze are very well done. The subject is a well-attired MALLARD DUCK IN CLOAK Tobacco Jar. This well-dressed duck wears a cloak over a robe. The ducks head and shoulders with shawl and cloak forms the lid top of the tobacco jar. The underside of the lid has a recessed area to put a damp sponge and is nicely fitted on the matching base. The lower half is the jar with cloak and robe. On the top, the inside is glazed, and underside is unglazed; the bottom rim edge is glazed. On the base, the top rim is glazed, the inside is glazed, the underside base is glazed, and the underside rim foot is unglazed. The tobacco jar has colors including a background decorated with lavender pink, off-white, dark green, yellow, light brown, and manganese. The estimated date is circa 1920. The underside has the impressed marks 9281, and black symbol 41. MALLARD DUCK IN CLOAK Tobacco Jar. Antique is in very good condition; on the underside rim of the top there is a ¼ x 1/8 in. Shallow glaze loss and a minor fret loss, both under glaze and from the original making. These are small and not visible when the lid is on the top. Condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, typical crazing, minor glaze losses, firing flaws, and fretting. Overall, this work is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. It is noted that old majolica is not inherently “perfect” – pieces were still mold formed in this era and as such have marks like little dents in the pottery which are glazed over. This is not damage- this is part of the history of old pottery and how it was made. Please see all photos which are a part of this description. This style includes production techniques whereby enamel glazes and decorations are hand applied and worked in stages upon a pottery form and fired several times in a kiln.
