Antique Black Forest Cigar Case w Carved Pheasants, Man Cave, Office, or Den

This is an antique Black Forest Cigar Casket or Case. It was carved by a highly skilled craftsman/artist in Switzerland or Germany probably between 1860 and 1900. On the top are a carved pair of pheasants, a hen and a rooster. Around the sides, back, and top are carvings of foliage, flowers, and geometric designs. The front of the Casket has a locking door which lifts up and there is a carved tray which is used to serve cigars to guests. The key and latch still work. The only flaw we noted with the Casket was that the bottom is slightly warped so that it places a great deal of stress on the latch if forced to lock. Also, only one tray was found with it and it likely held three when crafted. It is 7.25 inches long, 6.5 inches wide, and 6.5 inches from the bottom of the feet to the to of the carved rooster pheasant. It weighs one pound, 5 ounces. We always look for Black Forest Caskets when in France and have a few available in addition to this one. This one is so unusual for many reasons: There were not a lot of Cigar Caskets ever made. Ones that survive are likely to have some damage to the box or the fragile carvings. On this one the carvings appear to us to be undamaged. And, It is made for smaller cigars, possibly Cheroot types of cigars. What an elegant way to offer a cigar to friends though… Or just place it in an office or den for a reminder of a time when it was fashionable to offer a cigar to guests. Antique German Black Forest Wood Carved ANTLER HUMIDOR BOX Stag Rosette Hunt Dog Relief Key c1880. It is German, carved from wood to look like tree bark, and decorated with roebuck stag antler. 3 antler rosettes, one carved in relief showing a hunting dog. Inside shows a divided compartment. Dating to circa 1880. MEASURES: 9 7/8″ total height, 5 1/2″ to top of box, 11 1/2″ total width, 7 1/8″ deep. Good used condition showing great patina. A nail shows at the back of the lid and we see two chips just in front of the hinges. Inspect all photos to complete condition detail. I offer for sale a fabulous 19th century (1800’s) large antique Victorian to Edwardian era French Black Forest 15 cigar chest or cabinet, a beautiful decorative box with ornate carvings two large bird or Curlew figural top, and also floral carvings on each side including the back. This case has a complete interior consisting of 7 drawers or trays plus another drawer beneath the doors to hold cigar smoking accessories. All of the original interior cigar trays remain with the chest and will hold a total of 63 cigars, as each wooden shelf has recesses for 9 cigars. No breaks, warps or missing pieces. Each shelf slides smoothly in and out of the grooved slot construction of the interior. A beautiful piece of furniture where ever you decide to display it. Antique Black Forest Carved Wood Cigar Chest withDrawer Holds 42 Cigars 19th c

Black Forest Carved Wood. Cigar Serving Chest with Drawer. Fresh from the Dallas estate of an avid collector of fine antiques , a hand carved. Elaborately detailed on the top and four sides, the chest has floral and leaf carvings on the top, front and two sides. Closed, the cigar chest looks like a beautifully carved box. When the lid is lifted the doors swing open to reveal 42 spaces for holding cigars. There is a drawer at the bottom of the chest for matches or supplies. From any angle it is perfect for display. Chests like this were used after dinner for serving cigars to the men, when the women retired to another room. MEASUREMENTS: The chest is 9 3/4 inches wide, 8 inches high and 8 3/4 deep. CONDITION: In excellent pre-owned antique condition as shown in images. Has the original lock but the key is missing. There is one small chip on the bottom of the chest as shown in the last photo. It is necessary to handle with care to make sure the doors of the chest close properly. Wonderful patina and wear consistent with age. Please examine the photos as they are part of the description.
