Vintage Decatur Industries Solid Walnut Humidor-Cedar Lining

This is a solid Walnut Humidor made by the Decatur Industries Company of Decatur, Illinois. It is lined with solid cedar on the top and bottom. Inside it still has the original humidifier, and also, the original Decatur Industries hygrometer, and thermostat. You might note in the photos that they had them imported from France. The Humidor is large, bigger than any Decatur Industries humidors that we have encountered. It measures nearly 14.5 inches long, 9.25 inches wide, and. 6.25 inches tall. It weighs over 7 pounds. Decatur Industries of Decatur, Indiana, made a variety of solid wood tobacco accessories during the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s, and possibly later. The Company history is a bit sketchy but they made a quality product for the time, always using solid wood, usually walnut. This Humidor is a bit unusual for its size, its design, and for being in such good condition. It is not perfect, having a few tiny blemishes, some marring, small dents, water marks on the top, all shown in the photos, but for its age, over 50 years old, it is doing pretty well. Note: Most, if not all of the imperfections could easily be sanded, or buffed with steel wool and removed, but we left it as we found it. We thought a collector of vintage humidors might find it of interest.

Antique Dunhill London Solid Burl Walnut Copper Lined Humidor Cigar Tobacco Box

Listed here is this antique Dunhill of London humidor. It has a copper interior rim and a removable copper tray. In carries the vintage Dunhill nameplate shown and also a stamped patent number on the tray (2052826). The lid interior has a spring loaded frame that seals the box when closed. It has duel push button clasps and lock (sorry, no key). The bottom is covered in green felt. Condition: One hinge and the support brace needs attention; an easy fix if you’re handy. The top has light age cracks in the veneer, and some light scratches. The box has light wear scuffs throughout, only mentioned for the sake of accuracy and no real bother. Otherwise, all of the veneer is intact, with no chips or gouges. Just expected antique wear. No repairs or restoration. No key, hydrometer, etc. The felt bottom appears original. Faders Tobacconists Humidor Solid Walnut Man Cave, Den, or Cabin

This is a Fader’s Tobacconist Humidor made of solid walnut, solid maple, (we believe on the lid,) and lined with cedar. It is a beautiful humidor with a dovetail joints on the corners. A hygrometer and humidifier are attached to metal plates on the inside of the lid by magnets. It is in great condition with a few tiny scratches from careful use but no cracks, chips, dents, stains, or serious damage. It is uncommon to find humidors that are so well made of solid wood. Typical China made humidors are some cheap softwood veneer sprayed with multiple coats of lacquer. This one is very high qualiIty. It measures 12 inches long, 9.5 inches wide, five inches high, and weighs over 6 pounds. We love well crafted wooden boxes. Certainly, well made humidors are almost fairly considered works of art and this one is so well made. On the lid, the words, “Fader’s, tobacconist since 1891, ” are engraved into the solid wood, possibly by laser. There is a sticker inside from a company, Awards and More, from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, so we assume this humidor may have been presented to someone for some type of richly deserved recognition. We were unable to find another like it anywhere so it is fairly uncommon. Possibly someone knowledgeable about Fader’s Tobacconists may know what a find it is and appreciate it.
