This listing is for an antique English majolica figural pug-form tobacco jar circa late 19th Century. The base is marked with a signature in black. The interior of the base is green and the head is lilac. The belly and eyes are pink. The dog stands 8″ tall overall, about 7″ wide. There were several manufacturers of this style of jar in the late 1800’s. This particular jar is rare, and has a space between the front legs and body, a bow with applied knots at the ends, the collar as part of the lid, a mold seam across the top of the head, and a curly tail with spaces between the tail and body, and inside the hole of the curl. The jar has some flaws – an interior/exterior hairline right behind his left front leg, two small chips in the lid edge where it is placed into the base, some wear on his paw tips.
