Antique Majolica BEARDED MAN WITH TAM CAP TOBACCO JAR Humidor Early 20th C. This is a rare Antique Austrian Majolica BEARDED MAN WITH TAM CAP TOBACCO JAR Humidor art pottery. It is in the form of the head bust of an early 20. He is ruddy faced with pencil thin moustache and goatee beard. He is wearing a yellow bow tie cravat, has brown hair, and is wearing a black tam cap which serves as a lid. This is an elegant storage jar for tobacco or other small items. The modeling of this BEARDED MAN WITH TAM CAP Tobacco Jar is masterfully done, capturing great character. The colors are deep, and the painting and glazes are very well done. The interior of the bottom jar is glazed; the underside bottom of the jar (base) is unglazed. Inside the cap lid is glazed, and the cap underside rim edge is unglazed. The underside of the base is stamped with impressed marks 8124, CD, +, and V. Date is early 20. This BEARDED MAN WITH TAM CAP Figural Tobacco Jar is in good condition; noting on the inside top rim of the base- there is a surface chip loss above the left ear ¼ in. And a surface chip loss above the right eye ¼ in. Otherwise, condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, glaze losses, firing flaws, crazing, and fretting. Overall, this item is sound, having no other, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. It is noted that old Austrian Majolica is not inherently “perfect” – pieces were mold formed by hand in this era and as such have marks like little dents in the pottery which are glazed over. This isn’t damage- this is part of the history of old majolica pottery and how it was made. Please see all photos which are a part of this description. Please note that this item is photographed in natural light; shadows that may appear as irregularities are not necessarily chips, cracks, or discoloration. Tall X 4.0 In. This type of old art pottery is known as Austrian Majolica. This style includes production techniques whereby tin glazes and decorations are applied and worked in stages upon a modeled pottery form, and fired several times in a kiln. Early Abalone Shell Inlaid French CIGAR (Cigares) Humidor Box Birdseye Maple
This is a fine early French cigar humidor box adorned with carved and decorated abalone shell throughout. The box itself is constructed of Birdseye or Curly Maple over white pine – the escutcheon plate is a hand- cut piece of shell – top is adorned with shells of carved flowers and leaves with the outer edges of entire box being adorned with small diamonds of shell inlay. All inlay is complete and the interior still retains its original silver foil liner. Box is hand made and is not a commercially produced box. I would date it to the last quarter of the 19th century, to possibly the first few decades of the 20th century. A nice overall humidor for those who collect – box measures 10 1/4″ by 6″ inches and stands 3 3/4 inches high. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Tobacciana\Cigars\Humidors\Antique & Vintage”. The seller is “you-found-me” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.
